Sprint to Work in a Merc

Formula 1 Champion Lewis Hamilton drives a Mercedes-Benz for work, very fast. If you aspire to share something in common with the champ and appreciate German engineering excellence in your everyday work duties, then a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Cab Chassis may be the drive for you. But of course, driven to the speed limits. Apart from status and prestige of being able to drive a Merc for work every day, the Sprinter offers buyers a great deal of versatility and functionality for a range of delivery and transport tasks.

The Sprinter range is available in multiple variations which makes it highly adaptable to many industry applications and potentially a highly attractive option for many business set-ups. Landscaping and building businesses needing to move materials such as sand and gravel. Bulky goods and general transport operators. Trades and service teams that need to take a load of gear and the crew from site to site. Small removals and handyman services. Agriculture and farming operators requiring to transport produce to market. Whatever you need to move, the Sprinter Cab Chassis could be the vehicle to suit.

For those navigating tougher terrains, the 4x4 long wheel base variant offers features akin to a utility vehicle but built for rugged roads - a feature many of our Jade Truck Loans customers value.

Attractions of the Sprinter Cab-Chassis

For a start the Sprinter is available in both medium and long wheelbase and in either a single or a dual cab set-up. The tray allows for a load area of up to a generous 9.2 sq metres with 5 tonne GVM permissible. There is also a choice of either all-wheel drive or rear wheel drive so you’ve got plenty of boxes ticked.

As you would expect, your Sprinter is not short on tech with the advanced connectivity demanded by today’s busy operators. Engine-wise, the range includes the V6 diesel and in-line 4 cylinder which has 3 level of output.

As a Mercedes-Benz, the comfort and quality finishes are designed for the optimum driver experience. So you may not be taking your Merc on an F1 circuit, but you can still enjoy the experience of superb engineering and a touch of luxury in your own workspace.

Attractive Loan Options

An additional attraction to purchasing a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Cab Chassis now, is the Instant Asset Write-Off measure which is due to expire in its current format on 31 December 2020. The IAWO was introduced by the Federal Government in March as a COVID-19 stimulus measure and the original deadline of 30 June was then extended to 31 December 2020.

This measure allows for eligible businesses to write-off eligible assets up to $150,000 and the price of a Sprinter Cab Chassis appears to come in within that range.

Jade Truck Loans provides support to businesses seeking to take advantage of IAWO, with our cheap Chattel Mortgage truck loan for that purpose. We also offer Rent to Own truck finance and Leasing for Sprinter purchasers, but these loan types would not be suited to realising the benefits of IAWO as they are off balance sheet options.

It is advisable to discuss with your accountant to determine which finance option would be most beneficial for your specific business setup. While the Immediate Asset Write-Off (IAWO) has garnered widespread attention and many truck buyers may be interested in taking advantage of it, the tax benefits of Rent to Own and Leasing might be even more attractive for your operations.

Under Chattel Mortgage, the lender uses the truck as security against the loan, and the truck is recorded on the borrower's balance sheet. In contrast, with Rent to Own and Leasing, the lender technically purchases the truck and leases or rents it back to the borrower, resulting in the asset being recorded on the lender's balance sheet. Consequently, the borrower cannot claim depreciation in this scenario.

Furthermore, there are differences in the treatment of GST and tax deductions between these loan types. With Chattel Mortgage, the borrower can claim the full GST on the truck price in their Business Activity Statement (BAS) return once the loan is finalized, and they take ownership of the vehicle. On the other hand, with Leasing and Rent to Own, since the lender "owns" the truck, they apply GST to the monthly payments, which the borrower pays and can then claim at the time of payment. It's worth noting that GST is not applied to the interest.

Regarding tax deductions, with Rent to Own and Leasing, the repayments are considered operating expenses and are fully tax deductible. However, with Chattel Mortgage, only the interest portion of the repayment is tax deductible. Nonetheless, the Chattel Mortgage borrower benefits from the tax advantage of depreciation, which is realized at the end of the financial year accounts.

It's crucial to discuss these details with your accountant to make an informed decision about the most suitable finance option for your business.
